Veneto was part of the Roman Empire until the 5th century AD. Later, after a feudal period, it was part of the Republic of Venice until 1797. For centuries, Venice ruled over one of the largest and richest maritime republics and trading empires in the world. After the Napoleonic Wars and the Congress of Vienna, the Republic was annexed by the Austrian Empire until it merged with the Kingdom of Italy in 1866 as a result of the Third Italian War of Independence. In addition to Italian, most inhabitants speak Venetian, which is divided into five varieties. The Veneto region, located in the north-east of Italy, is a highly sought-after destination due to its main tourist attraction: Venice. A golf holiday in the region is very easy, as there are international airports in Verona and Venice. Almost all golfers combine a visit to Venice with a round of golf. Golfing in Veneto is amazing because courses are built in a great scenic setting overlooking, for example, the Dolomites, Lake Garda and the Adriatic Sea. Veneto boasts many exciting, challenging courses, rich in tradition, all of which respect the peculiarities of golf. There are 28 golf clubs in the region, most of which offer a relaxed atmosphere. Special courses: Golf della Montecchia and Golf Club Ca’Amata. In addition, there is a variety of beautiful golf resorts in the area. In Veneto you can play golf all year round. From May to October conditions are excellent.

24.10. — green fee per player: Green Fee 18 Holes (10:00)
Just South of Venice, within the Po Delta Nature Park, the island of Albarella – a big resort fully equipped for many water and land sports – is connected by a long bridge to the mainland. Albarella Golf Club boasts 18 holes designed in 1972 by John Harris (along with the Venetian architect Marco Croze), who intended to recreate a Scottish links course by the sea, however to be set up for the Mediterranean climate, where the challenges are mainly posed by the numerous bunkers and by the pine grove that outlines the fairways. The course is flat, with some water hazards and island greens. Often your fellow players are deer – dozens of them – that are not at all intimidated by the players, as they graze the tender grasses of the fairways. It is a sight you can never get used to. The island is 5 km and 1,5 km wide and it’s the ideal destination for a family holiday full of sport and relaxation in an area far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, where however, there’s no time for boredom in between the cultural events and excursions in the unspoilt countryside. Technical Details Course: 18 holes, Par 72, 6130 meters Architect: John Dering Harris Topography: flat, many bunkers, some small island greens Distinctive features: the sea breeze, blowing almost constantly all year round, can be quite tricky and affect the game. Deers on the course. Pro’s Comments Albarella is one of the very few links courses in Italy and as such is very often windswept, but has the advantage of being almost entirely flat. Among the truly unique wildlife, the course can be enjoyed by players of all levels. Be extremely careful at the 6th, 7th, 16th and 17th holes: when the wind blows from the sea, your slice is almost guaranteed. Keep focused!!!
