Toscana Mare

Toscana Mare

For those who love picture-perfect scenery, the Tuscan coast facing the Tyrrhenian Sea is a must. Trust us, because we know it by heart. The Italia Golf & More customer service is right here, between Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi! The hardest part will be deciding whether to head for Versilia and its golden beaches, inlands with tiny hamlets and natural parks begging to be explored, nightlife abounding with shows and entertainment. Or perhaps the poetic beauty of Bolgheri with its cypress-lined avenue, or rather the wild beauty of the Argentario with its promontory reaching out to Giannutri and Giglio Islands. Or better yet, why deny yourself any of it, and just visit it all from top to bottom, giving yourself time to enjoy memorable days of golf.

From the age-old pier of Forte dei Marmi, rising from the road that Michelangelo Buonarroti had built to transport the raw material for his statues there is only the endless blue of the sea as far as the eye can see. From here traveling south on the coast, the panorama changes, but only into a thousand variations of beauty. Crystalline sea everywhere, clear water, well-kept beaches that offer maximum comfort and services, always respecting the environment. Tuscany has 19 seaside resorts from Carrara to Monte Argentario which were awarded the Blue Flag rating in 2016, the international certification which rewards not only the excellence of the sea but other factors which contribute to creating the perfect holiday, such as services to beach-goers, greenery, pedestrian areas and bike lanes.
The combination of sea and golf is probably one of the most successful but not only during the summer because the Tyrrhenian Sea is a wonder to see and breathe regardless of season.
In Pietrasanta, the 18-hole course at the Forte dei Marmi Golf Club, the Versilia Golf Resort's main strength, has been a very popular destination since 1990 when it was founded. Perhaps it is because the course is only five minutes from the beaches and the sophistication of "Forte", as the habitués call it, or perhaps because its layout is enjoyable, stimulating without being too difficult, all the while varied and lively. Or perhaps it is due to the natural context amidst centuries-old woodlands, bodies of water and the backdrop of the Apuan Alps.
Just 50 kilometers further south, the town of Tirrenia is the perfect stop for golfers because it boasts two courses. The Golf Club Tirrenia, the elder of the two - open since 1968 - has only 9 holes, but the course is so interesting and demanding that no one will ever regret having to repeat it to do a complete round of golf. The dense pinewood guarantees constantly cool temperatures even on the hottest days. Just two minutes by car will take you to the entrance of the Cosmopolitan Golf & Country Club, opened on the former premises of the Tirrenia film studios. Here the characteristics are completely different from those of its "older brother": little vegetation, wide fairways, many water hazards which, together with wind and the terrain's sandy base, combine to make the course technically interesting. You will be struck by the clubhouse, in which you can recognize the touch of a famous architect: the project with a circular ground plan and large cupola is by Aldo Rossi, and was presented to the Beaubourg Museum in Paris as an example of contemporary Italian architecture

From here, it takes one hour and thirty minutes by car to reach the Golf Club Toscana, an 18-hole course designed in 1999 in the greenery of the Tuscan hills, amidst olive trees and cypresses with a view of the countryside as far as the eye can see and from the tee at Hole 18, the sea and Elba Island.
The most extraordinary seaview can be enjoyed at the Golf Club Punta Ala, with its 18-hole course built in 1964 in the famous homonymous seaside resort in a splendid pinewood. The tee shot on Hole 1 is breathtaking: you'll need every bit of your concentration to hit the middle of the fairway running there beneath it, quite a bit below it actually and which curves with a nice dogleg left towards the green. But it isn't easy, as the sea contrasts with the very thick tops of the maritime pines, and Elba Island and the gulf of Follonica before you are a distraction of such beauty that they cannot be ignored.
The final stop before reaching Latium is the Argentario Golf Resort & Spa, 18 holes designed by architect David Mezzacane and by Baldovino Dassù on 77 hectares of Mediterranean brushland between Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole, facing the tract of sea running from Giannella Beach all the way to Talamone. Open for play since 2005, the course is varied with significant differences in level in stretches, and is never boring, yet becomes irksome when the wind increases. A holiday here is a full immersion in the beauty and peace of an unspoiled place where attention to ecology and respect for nature are watchwords.
